Nevada Traffic School Questions

How often can I take traffic school?

Licensed drivers may voluntarily take a traffic safety course to receive a point reduction once within any 12 month period. If I go to traffic school, do I still get demerit points on my license?

If you are completing a course in response to a court order, you will not be eligible for a point reduction as this is in lieu of points. If you are completing a traffic safety course voluntarily, because you have at least 3 points and no more than 11 points on your license, upon successful completion of the point reduction course, you are eligible for a 3-point deduction of demerit points.

How do I know if I should take a traffic safety course?

The Nevada DMV sends letters out to those drivers who have a minimum of 3 points and no more than 11 points advising that by successfully completing a traffic safety school course they are entitled to remove 3 points from their driving record. Drivers are also eligible if they are ordered by the courts or if a plea bargain is reached with the courts that allows for completion of a traffic safety course in lieu of receiving demerit points. You can also order your driving record from the Nevada DMV, either online, in-person, or by mail to establish if you should take a traffic safety course.
